The GRGI pilot program initially launched as a collaboration between CareSparc Community Connections, Table to Table, food rescue organization, Newark School District, Lincoln Elementary School.
The primary objective of this program is to assist grandparents in navigating systems to empower them to be stronger advocates for themselves and for the children in their care.
The goals of this program are to:
- Reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect through parent education
- Facilitate caregiver access to the following:
- Healthy sustainable food sources and nutritional education
- Medical Care/Primary Care provider
- Community and Social Services
- Behavioral Health/Mental Health resources
- Sustainable Housing
- Health and wellness promotion resources
- Academic resources for children in their care
- Provide greater understanding of special education services-- Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Division of Vocational Rehab (DVR) Services
The program currently serves grandparents and children in the Newark and greater Newark community.
